Here at Agatha's Lucky Paws, we have an important mission that is close to our hearts. They are those who are in Sanctuary. These animals can become Sanctuary animals for many different reasons.
  • Long term animals that need rehabilitation or extensive training.
  • Animals who have a long term recovery for an ailment.
  • Hospice for very aged or terminally ill animals.
  • Animals unadoptable to the general public for safety, liability, or disability.

Many people want to know the best way to help out Sanctuary animals.
There are a few ways that would help out the needs of the Sanctuary.
Picture

Sponsoring

Picture
Picture
  • Sponsoring. Sanctuary animals require basic needs that can met with continued support from a person, group of persons, or an organization.
  • We are always in need of Pet Food. Many Sanctuary animals are with us to the very end and Pet Food is always something that is needed to keep them happy and healthy. Some of the Sanctuary animals need specialized foods.
  • Flea/Tick/Heartworm Prevention for Dogs/Cats. All of our Sanctuary animals are Indoor Only. Even so, dogs still need to go outside and they interact with Foster Dogs who go to the Dog Park and Events. Many of the cats also enjoy Screened in Pool/Patio areas to go bird and squirrel watching or just lay in the warm sun with other foster dogs or cats in their Sanctuary Homes. Its important to keep them on preventatives.
  • Dog and Cat Beds. Some of our Senior, Disabled, and Hospice animals benefit from Orthopedic beds that can help relieve pressure points and Raised beds for dogs who have a hard time getting off the floor.

Veterinary Care

  • When some animals arrive they have needs that may take a little more time to heal. Animals who have Heartworms, Broken Limbs, Need Amputations, or have been Hit by a Car may take more time to recover from such injuries. It is often too much to ask a potential adopter to handle that for a new pet so many of these special cases gain a temporary Sanctuary Status until they recover and can live a more normal/stable life.
  • Seniors have a variety of health issue as they age, some of the most common are the very things our human seniors deal with such as Arthritis or even Incontinence.

Picture

  • Some animals battle serious conditions that take a lot of work, effort, or funding. Some of these conditions are things like Diabetes, Seizures, Debilitating Immune Disorders, and Neurological Conditions.
  • There are at times issues that cannot be seen. Ones that appear normal on the outside but can be just as traumatic as a physical malady. Animals can suffer from a variety of Mental Disorders from Anxiety, PTSD, Severe OCD, Bi Polarism, as well as other lesser known afflictions that can affect specifically dogs or cats.
  • Hospice Animals can be of any age. These animals would require much of the same care as their human counterparts would to help keep them comfortable aside from love and companionship. This can include pain medicine, intravenous fluids, and veterinary observation.

Therapy
Picture

  1. Hydro Therapy is a fantastic way to help animals recovering from ailments concerning their limbs. It can help an amputee strengthen its other limbs, provide a good range of motion for arthritic animals, and help obese animals safely lose weight.
  2. Massage Therapy can not only help the physical body by stimulating muscles and helping relax them, it can also help animals who have high anxiety levels. By doing so it can help rekindle trust between humans and animals through touch while helping them come down from a high strung state of being.
  3. Acupuncture Therapy has various uses that function on a different level than the  ones previously mentioned. Not just a Holistic approach, it treats internally by stimulating nerves, circulation, and releasing natural anti-inflammatory and pain relieving hormones. There are a few other treatments that are similar but can act and affect the body differently. These Include; Acupressure, Moxibustion, Electrostimulation (often used on humans who experience chronic back pain for instance), and Laser Energy which works like a needle-less form of Acupuncture for more sensitive animals.

These are just a few of the many things that Donations can help with!

We want the people who Donate to us know where their money is going, so we will always send back a note to share this information with you. Here at ALPRAS our connection to our supporters is very important to us. ALPRAS is 100% Donations and Out of Pocket Assistance from Foster Homes, Furever Foster Homes, and supportive partners like Kittens in Chains. We appreciate every Donation and so do the Rescue and Sanctuary animals who are the ones that benefit from the kindness of others.

Sponsoring an Animal

is a general commitment to providing continued support through
donations of food, money, or services.

Picture
Picture
Food Sponsor
Being a Food Sponsor means that the donations you make based on the individual animal's needs goes directly to just that animal and the food they require every time.
Example: Spock + required two 30lb bags of Taste of the Wild -        Pacific Stream that cost $50 each every month. The Sponsor chooses when they would be making a donation, how much, and if they are local, whether or not they wish to purchase the bags directly from the store or website themselves for pick up or delivery. Spock's Sponsor would choose to buy one of his bags of food a month or donate money towards his food in general.

Picture
Medication Sponsor
A Medication Sponsor takes on some (or all) of the medications needed to  maintain the health and stability of the individual animal.
Example: Julien+ required one Atarax (Hydroxyzine) 50mg Tablet two times a day that costs $32 a month which would increase over time.

Other animals may have several medications or higher prices. Funding Medications is most often a group effort of various Sponsors aside from the rescue funding for animals with several or high priced Medications.

Picture
Grooming Sponsor
Most people want to look and feel their best. Animals are no different. Some grooming needs to be done by professionals or on a much more regular basis for Health or Sanitary reasons ie: Some cats are unable to groom themselves and need to be shaved down or bathed every few days.
Example: Singleton ~ had very bad teeth that need to be removed, she could not groom herself, and was also a long haired cat. This required both baths and being shaved down for her health, comfort, and sanitary needs. Even after her surgery there was a time where she could not groom while she was healing.
A Grooming Sponsor could be:
- Someone who donates funds for a specific animal  or portion of Grooming.
- Someone local with experience as a Groomer and Grooms them for Free.
- A local Business Groomer who Grooms for Free or Reduced Rates.

Picture
Enrichment Sponsor
Being a Sanctuary animal, even if they are a Hospice animal, doesn't mean that they have to have boring days until they cross the Rainbow Bridge. Part of what we do for our Sick, Elderly, or Hospice Humans is to try and make life not just bearable, but enjoyable despite discomfort.
Example: Caramon +, a Hospice Sanctuary Cat, loved all kinds of toys. Anything that shined, jingled, wiggled, or waved was interesting and made him come to life. As an Abyssinian, he had more energy than most cats.
Even small Sponsorship can aid a Sanctuary animal in having a full life.

Picture
Vaccine Sponsor
Routine Vaccinations and Worming are still a must for any Sanctuary animal. Though some become exempt from some vaccinations through health issues, most still need them to keep themselves, other animals, and even their human caregivers safe as in the case of the Rabies Virus.
Example: Jack Sparrow+ was not an outside cat but he lived with dogs who do go on walks and to the dog park. This still exposed him to anything that they or the humans who lived with him walk on or carry on them. Shelters, Vet Clinics, Grooming and Boarding Facilities all pose a risk.
A Vaccine Sponsor can Donate for one or a group of animals. At ALPRAS we buy and administer all Vaccinations and Dewormer aside from Rabies which must be administered by a licensed veterinarian.

Picture
Preventative Sponsor
It's a never ending battle against these critters that drive everyone a bit nuts and make animals lives miserable. Many Preventatives also include protection from Heartworms caused by infected Mosquitoes. It takes a monthly dose for every animal and that includes those in the Sanctuary.
Example: Jazz+ was an indoor dog with us, but her prior owners were rural people who did not know about or could not afford preventatives. Due to this Jazz developed Heartworms and had to undergo serious treatment.
Preventatives are always ongoing and a Sponsor can continue to save a life.

Picture
Veterinary Expenses
The most expensive part of any Rescue or Sanctuary is the Vet Bills that will occur. These can be Routine Exams, Ongoing Medical Conditions, or Unexpected Emergency. Some animals require more Vet Care than others.
Example: Baron + was a Dachshund who was in a Wheelchair. As he got older he needed more attention to various needs from his condition.
A Veterinary Sponsor can Donate to support one specific animal,
help cover unexpected Veterinary costs and/or help with a group effort,
or even be Local Veterinarian who provides Free or Reduced Veterinary Care.

Personal Pupdates and Mews is a commitment on our part to someone who Sponsors an animal with ALPRAS.
Pupdates for those who Sponsor Dogs and Mews for those who Sponsor Cats gives the Sponsor special Updates and News on what is going on in the life of your Sponsored ALPRAS Rescue and/or Sanctuary animal. They want to show you how they are doing and how grateful they (and we!) are. These can come via Email or Text with Pictures with the latest Updates and/or News. You'll be the first one to know any special activities they may be doing, how vet visits went, when they receive the item(s) that you Sponsored for them, if their status has changed, and even showing a side to them no one else gets to see! For example, Wicket the Retired Service Dog was a Sanctuary Animal who didn't do a whole lot, but sometimes he got frisky or make ridiculous noises that you almost have to be there to hear while doing certain activities. These humorous and adorable sights and sounds would be something only his Sponsor would get to experience like a personal diary in his life. After all, it wouldn't be a secret journal if he shared it with everyone! It's a small gift of gratitude that we hope our Sponsors enjoy and to say Thank You.
