Pawsome Pet in Need!
At this time most of the animals are doing well. Any donations we receive will go towards food, litter, supplements, medications, and vaccinations for the Foster and Sanctuary Animals in our care.
Kankuro is a rescued snake who came to us from another rescuer whose circumstances changed drastically and they needed a place for several reptiles to go. We weren't looking to add another Ball Python into the sanctuary but we were happy to take him in. That was over 15 years ago!
Rescuing a Reptile is serious business. Many reptiles, like Birds, live very long lives. A well cared for Ball Python can live up to 30-35 years in captivity! Some individuals have been said to make it to 50 while while in the wild they can only expect about 10-15 due to predation by other animals INCLUDING humans.
Kankuro, who was already around 10 years old, was a guy who occasionally would get into a little trouble. In fact, in his previous home he managed to disappear for 2 months and was found hiding in a couch! Here at ALPRAS he has been a pretty good boy and also has a very very secure enclosure to keep him safe. Now at a healthy roughly 25 years old, we can expect to have him a good while longer.

With all animals, it is imperative you do research. Whether its as commonplace as a cat or dog breed, standard pocket pets like Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, and Rats, more 'Exotic' types like Birds and Reptiles, and ABSOLUTELY extreme exotics...
DO. YOUR. RESEARCH.
Many animals require far more care than most people expect.
For the health and happiness of both you and your pets its always best to seek professional advice whenever possible.

Pheadra Rose was once a litter of two. She came in with her much larger brother who ate WAY more than she did. As temporary names, we called him Tick and her Flea because she was so tiny. Tick went on to be adopted, but little Flea was too sickly to go anywhere. She went through so much in her short kittenhood. Baths were a daily routine and sometimes several. She had constant diarrhea, had trouble eating, and was fighting various infections off and on. It took a lot of work to get her healthy enough to find somewhere that was ‘normal’ despite chronic issues and some pretty severe allergies, to everything.
We knew we were in it for the long haul with this small cat. Her name became Pheadra, after a strong female fighter in a video game called Vhaidra. Her battle against her small body has made her a fighter for survival, but she never gives up. She even had to have all but four of her teeth removed by the time she was 5! Pheadra may have a lot of health problems but we won’t give up till she says so. Her favorite friend in the house is Julius the Cat.
Please consider being a Sanctuary Sponsor for Pheadra !
Blizzard Calypso is a wonderful cat all the way.
She has been what we at ALPRAS call a ‘Hero Momma’. She has raised many kittens that were never her own. She has done the extremely rare and even milked for sick and needy kittens though having never had a litter herself and having been spayed before her first heat. She has proven a valuable friend to many a suffering foster or sanctuary cat and helped guide them through rehabilitation. She has been selflessly giving of herself and her time to those animals in need. She has even done the same for dogs and puppies. Blizzard can be insanely patient with people and animals in general. She herself is an on the go inquisitive type cat. You may find her asleep somewhere or on top of a door. (Yes, we literally mean the top of a door!) She is intelligent and though not a troublemaker can find herself in the occasional predicament. She loves watching nature, chasing bugs, frogs, and lizards (and making some of them gifts for you), watching/chasing birds and squirrels (from the safety of a catio), and sunbathing. Blizzard can walk on a leash/harness set which has drawn many bemused stares. She doesn’t have much formal training, but she will go out and walk a ways, stop and chew on some grass, try to capture a bug etc. It was unexpected to have her come back to us, but thanks to a loving and wonderful Good Samaritan she was able to come home to ALPRAS. She has always had a permanent place in our hearts & now she has one as well here, as a Resident Sanctuary Cat. |
