Overall Mental Health – Good (4)

Singleton is in good Mental Health. Her score of 4 is only in regard to her being skittish at times. We often joke that she acts as if someone is going to eat her when they walk by although she knows that isn’t the case! This reactionary response is what keeps her from a 5.  

People – Good (4)

Singleton is good with people. Once she is secure and knows who she is with, she becomes friendly and interactive. She has had no bad experiences with people of either sex; she simply has a slight unnecessary paranoia of people who are loud or extremely dominant that goes away with a little time.

Children – Average (3)

Singleton is fine with children. She does not handle rough or loud children or those that try to chase her well and will hide for a long while if they do. If she knows the children, she will come up of her own accord. She is not a fan of being picked up, but if she lives with them she will tolerate it. So long as they are gentle with her, she will be responsive to them. 

Dogs – Good (4 )

Singleton has lived the entirety of her life with dogs. She has no true ‘fear’ of them. Aside from her skittishness, Singleton will interact with dogs as a normal cat would. She will not go out of her way to play or be near them, but she is not opposed to their presence either. She would not be as good in a home with an extremely rambunctious dog or one that will chase cats. Singleton has lived with dogs as big as Mastiffs, as energetic as Boxers and Pit Bulls, down to tiny dogs like Chihuahuas and Pekingese. If the dog(s) are decently behaved she will acclimate easily enough.

Cats – Excellent ( 5 )

Singleton has lived the entirety of her life with cats. She enjoys being around other cats and likes to sleep in a pile with them. She is socially sound and can handle herself around cats and communicate with them without issue. She knows how to avoid surly cats and how to be around those that are fearful. With her laid back personality with other cats, Singleton often acts like a ‘sister’.

Pocket Pets – Good (4) 

Singleton shows very little attention to rodentia. ALPRAS does not currently have any pocket pets; however, she did have a lot of contact with a guinea pig in the sanctuary. She essentially showed no interest other than passive observation. Though she has not harmed any smaller animal, to be on the safe side, introductions to these animals should be done carefully and with consideration to both species. 

Behavioral Issues – Minimal ( 1 )

Singleton does not have any major behavioral issues. Aside from general nuisance behaviors found in any cat,  i.e. jumping on tables or countertops that she isn’t supposed to, she is well behaved. The most one needs to look out for is to make sure the litter box is clean. Singleton will put up with many things, but a dirty litter box is not one of them. On a side note like many longer haired cats, a silicon or ‘crystal’ type litter may be preferable and easier to keep her clean with or without a ‘sanitary cut’.

All ALPRAS cats are ‘indoor’ only. A ‘catio’ or screened in area where she could explore the outside safely would be fine for her although she is perfectly happy just being inside and viewing from afar with a nice piece of glass between her and the world.

Energy – Low ( 2 )

Singleton is a lower energy level cat. She is much more of a lazy princess housecat than anything else. She can be coerced into play on occasion with something like ‘blanket mouse’, but she truly does prefer to be a pretty princess who gets doted on for everything.

Meowing – Mild (2 )

Singleton is not a huge talker but she will make little mews when she wants something or if you ‘talk’ to her. She absolutely does not like being in a crate and will spend a good amount of time yowling about how terrible it is. She will calm down, but she will protest and do so loudly. The only other time she usually makes noise is if she is about to cough up a hairball. She will sound miserable so you will know it is coming. Keeping her on hairball foods or on hairball treatment supplements helps keep these issues at bay as with most cats.

Swimming – Passable ( 2 )

Singleton can swim as a means to an end. She mostly panics and launches herself from the water. Here at ALPRAS we teach every animal how to swim. We do this to ensure that if a home has a pool, that they can get out of it. She is happy to hang out with whoever is swimming and even be petted though she is not interested in going in. If there is a pool at the adopter’s home, we recommend ensuring that she knows the exits to the stairs or ledges where she can easily get out should she somehow land in the middle of the water and not near an edge. Ironically, if someone is taking a bath, she enjoys sitting on the edge of the tub and even letting her tail swish in the water from time to time.

Toys – Average (3)

Singleton is slow to play, but she does like the kitty wands once she gets into it. She seems to reserve herself. She wants to play, but isn’t always sure how to interact with the toys. She will bat at jingle or crinkle balls and sometimes play with catnip toys. With time and a little patience she could be enticed to become more active with toys and her human.

Commands Working On - 

As with most cats, there are not a whole lot of commands they need or use. Currently there are no new commands she is being trained to know.

Other Notes: 

Singleton is all Princess. She has been doted on by other cats and people love to pet her because she is pretty, and she knows it. Singleton is one of those cats who enjoy being looked at and spending side by side time with someone. She doesn’t always want to be glommed on but doesn’t mind being petted and given attention to. This Princess is a more ‘delicate’ type of cat and would make a good companion for someone who doesn’t mind looking at her, brushing her, or petting her softly. Singleton is one who likes to attach herself to the one giving her the most attention while respecting her boundaries and spends the most time with her whether interacting fully or not. She would probably be best suited for a gentle or quiet child or an equally calm person/household.
