Overall Physical Health – Health (5)
Weight (5)
(1=severely emaciated, 5 – 6 normal, 10 = morbidly obese)
Blizzard is in excellent health and weight for her body type, age, and breed. She presents no health issues and is robust, lively, and energetic.
Overall Mental Health – Excellent (5)
Blizzard is in excellent mental health. She is incredibly smart and has a bright and vibrant nature. She is very inquisitive and playful.
People – Excellent (5)
Blizzard is wonderful with people. She doesn’t know a stranger. From being playful to taking a nap on your lap, she is open and friendly with everyone.
Children – Excellent (5)
Blizzard is excellent with children. She will let them pick her up and carry her around. This can be done even in ways uncomfortable for most cats. Blizzard will put up with a lot from children. She has a very motherly nature and is extremely patient.
Dogs – Excellent ( 5 )
Blizzard has lived the majority of her life with dogs. She is not afraid of them and gets along with virtually every dog she’s ever met. From the tiniest Chihuahua to the largest mastiff and everything in between, she has seen them all.
Cats – Excellent ( 5 )
Blizzard has proven to be amazing and motherly towards cats. Despite never having a litter of her own and having been spayed before her first heat, she has done what is extremely rare in the animal kingdom as a whole. Blizzard has not only cared for sick and ailing cats and kittens, but she has even milked for kittens. She has helped rehabilitate many cats and kittens over her time with ALPRAS. There has only ever been one cat she has ever had a ‘tiff’ with and that cat had been practically declared ‘Persona non Grata’ amongst the cats as a whole. Blizzard has been generous with her time and energy to every cat she has met in every other circumstance.
Pocket Pets – Average (3)
Blizzard shows an expressed interest in rodentia type pocket pets. ALPRAS does not currently have any pocket pets; however, she did have a lot of contact with a guinea pig in the sanctuary. She would ‘pet’ her through the bars of her crate. Though she has not harmed any smaller animal, to be on the safe side, introductions to these animals should be done carefully and with consideration to both species.
Behavioral Issues – Minimal ( 1 )
Blizzard does not have any major behavioral issues. Aside from general nuisance behaviors found in any cat, i.e. jumping on tables or countertops that she isn’t supposed to, she is well behaved. The most one needs to look out for is her insatiable curiosity that can find her on top of strange places and wanting to go explore outside.
All ALPRAS cats are ‘indoor’ only. A ‘catio’ or screened in area where she could explore the outside safely would be ideal for her.
Energy – Moderate ( 4 )
Blizzard is an on the move cat. She could be considered an Executive on some days and a Personal Assistant on others. She is inquisitive and playful. Blizzard does like to cuddle and hang out, but she is just as much on the move. This cat is one that would be happy in a busy environment as much as a relaxed one, as long as there is something to do!
Meowing – Minimal (1 )
Blizzard doesn’t make a lot of noise. If she is meowing it is for human benefit or if you are ‘talking’ to her, she may respond to a human meow with her own.
Swimming – Average ( 3 )
Blizzard can swim as an average animal can. Here at ALPRAS we teach every animal how to swim. We do this to ensure that if a home has a pool, that they can get out of it. She is happy to hang out with whoever is swimming and even be petted though she would prefer to stay on the sidelines when it comes to going in. If there is a pool at the adopter’s home, we recommend ensuring that she knows the exits to the stairs or ledges where she can easily get out.
Toys – Good ( 4 )
Blizzard is enamored with the shiny. Her favorites are kitty wands that have metallic streamers, glittery or shiny objects, and catnip toys. Like with all toys, check to make sure that the toy is in good condition and has not become a danger to her with jagged edges or strands that could get caught in her throat.
Known Commands:
Sit, Wait, On, Off, Back, Swim, Play, Come(here), Eat, Drink (little only or cats only), Leave It, No(when needed), Yes, Go, Stay, Crate, Stop, Enough, Give Space, Get Out Of That, Go Do Something With Yourself, Don't do it, Back Off, Play, Beezer
Commands Working On -
As with most cats, there are not a whole lot of commands they need or use. Currently there are no new commands she is being trained to know.
Other Notes:
Blizzard is a wonderful cat all the way through. She has been what we at ALPRAS call a ‘Hero Momma’. She has raised many kittens that were never her own. She has done the extremely rare and even milked for sick and needy kittens though having never had a litter herself and having been spayed before her first heat. She has proven a valuable friend to many a suffering foster or sanctuary cat and helped guide them through rehabilitation. She has been selflessly giving of herself and her time to those animals in need. She has even done the same for dogs and puppies. Blizzard can be insanely patient with people and animals in general. She herself is an on the go inquisitive type cat. You may find her asleep somewhere or on top of a door. (Yes, we literally mean the top of a door!) She is intelligent and though not a troublemaker can find herself in the occasional predicament.
Ideally, a potential adopter would have a screened in area or ‘catio’ where she could be ‘outside’ safely. She loved watching nature, chasing bugs, frogs, and lizards (and making some of them gifts for you), watching/chasing birds and squirrels, and sunbathing. Blizzard can walk on a leash/harness set. She doesn’t have much formal training, but she will go out and walk a ways, stop and chew on some grass, try to capture a bug etc. With a little training she could probably easily learn to go on walks like a dog would. She would probably very much enjoy such an activity. Though Blizzard could fit into any family, it would be wonderful for her to find a moderate to active household that could keep her on her toes and give her the time and exercise she craves. As with all ALPRAS animals, a Home Visit is required to ensure she goes to the best place for her.
