It's June and the Dog Days of Summer are in full swing!

Being in Florida, we can appreciate how hot that sun can get. Over this summer we will cover seasonal safety having to do with the sea, sun, heat, beaches, pools, and foods that are both safe and fun.

With the kids out of school, there will be more interaction between animals and kids whether it is just around the neighborhood, at family gatherings, or on vacation. This month and next we will be adding in some advice on how to have both kids and pets be respectful of each other.

Don't forget, if we don't have the type of pet that you want to spend many summers with, there are thousands of pets in rescues and shelters just waiting to share endless summers with you!

Asphalt, Concrete, Gravel, Beach Sand, and some Deck types.

Paws Softened by a day of Swimming are at Extra Risk.

Keep an eye out in Tourist or Celebration areas for Broken Glass, Jagged Metal (like beer bottle caps), and discarded foods that your pup may try to snag.

Burrs (like Sand spurs) in Nature Walkways and Trails can hide between paw pads while Sweet Gum Tree seed pods may hide in some tree lined sandy beaches.

In the last week of May 2015, across Eight states, the people you would expect most to know better.....didn't.
That week claimed the lives of 11 dogs.
Not just any dogs, but K9 Police Dogs.

Its estimated that roughly 35-40 Children die in hot vehicles every year in this country. Most people think of their kids long before they think of their pets which is why, for pets, that number reaches into the Thousands.*

There are many articles on this issue that is only beginning to get the attention it deserves. The highlighted article written by Dr. Katy Nelson for BarkPost.com details what happens,
how fast, and what to do if it does happen.

Do you have a Plan?

June 1st is more than the beginning of Summer, it's also the beginning of Hurricane Season.

With the Devastating Hurricane Activity the last few years it is more important than ever to be prepared.
Our Hearts go out to the people and pets who have suffered under Hurricanes
in the past and to all those who still suffer from the devastating effects of
Hurricane Helene and Milton in Florida.

Though we at ALPRAS made it through Helene & Milton safely in 20year, we know many who did not.

Please do your part in making sure you are best prepared for any Natural Disaster.

Featured Dog of the Month

Picture

Hi! My name is Willow!

I may look like salt and pepper, but i'm a total sugar rush! I'm looking for a home with someone who is an expert snuggler, and a play buddy in a hooman, tiny hooman, dog, cat, or all four! I love everyone I've met so far, although I'm a little shy at first. If you are someone who likes to shower your pup with Treats and Toys, I want in! Toys are so much fun that I'm happy playing by myself, but I share super well with everypawdy. I'd really like a dog brother or sister to play with and show me the ropes (literally!) I'm a smart and observant and I'm doing a pawsome job learning sign language. I even have a special sign for my own name! They say I'm a really user friendly pup, but don't just take my bark for it, let's meet pup...err....up!

I just got ADOPTED and I'm so excited. Having a new family to get to know is gonna be pawsome. There are lots of toys here and I get to play with them with my new sister dog, Rosie! I'll be making new memories now but I'll never forget everyone who was a part of my life before. When I can, I'll give everyone a pupdate about how I'm doing. For now, I'm gonna follow my new Dad around and demand cuddles because I'm fluffy and nopawdy is floofier than me!

I got adopted!!!

I was initially nervous about everything since it was all so new, but my brother made me at home super fast. He's the biggest cat I've ever seen! His name is Mojo, a Maine Coon kitty. He even lays with me. My other brother, Kevin, he's still not sure but Mojo says he'll come around. My new mom and dad are super nice and really patient. They make me feel at home, which is great because I am Home now! They play my favorite song and music whenever I need it, got me a huge new bed, give me lots of pets and cuddles. I'm glad I have a home to call my own and a new family that will help me be the brightest star I can be!  <3
