Jensen is in good condition and weight for his size. He has no known medical issues and is healthy.

Overall Mental Health – Great (4.5) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

Jensen is mentally sound and acts as a dog his age and breed would. His score of 4.5 is based off of mild anxiety due to the circumstances of his coming into the rescue. Once he is in his forever home, this anxiety will probably fade quickly over time as he acclimates to the schedule of the home.

***NOTE*** Jensen came into the rescue after being a stray, he was adopted through Animal Control in his location. His new loving owner lost everything a month later overnight. We don't know what his life was prior to his recent owner, but we know he was very loved for the month he was with his family. Jensen adapts quickly and should acclimate to his new home in short order.

True to his breed: Jensen is exactly what you would expect of a Husky in every way, but a shockingly well adjusted and behaved one! Still, all Huskies make some noise and are hilariously dramatic. Jensen is no different....just less noisy!

People – Good ( 5 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

Jensen is great with people of all ages and physical capabilities. He has been around healthy humans as well as both the elderly and handicapped  Huskies are generally very social dogs with both people and other animals with a strong pack mentality. They are often chosen as a family pet due to their friendly outgoing nature, energy, and dramatic antics. Huskies have a strong sense of pack cooperation as dogs bred to have teamwork. This means they often enjoy the company of others, especially when working or doing activities with their families.

Children – ( 5 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

Jensen has been around very small children as well as kids of all ages. Although we cannot say for 100% how he would be with infants, we have very little doubt he'd be any kind of problem. Jensen knows how to be gentle and is incredibly sweet. With general proper boundaries and introductions you would give any dog, we believe he will be the goodest of boys with babies. As far as other children and teens, we think he'd enjoy having some to play with if there are any.

***NOTE*** If an adopter has children, it will be a requirement that they be home for the home visit so we can ensure a good match. We always want an adoption to be right the first time every time and will always do what we think is best for the animal.

Dogs – Excellent ( 5 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

Jensen is great with dogs of all sizes and breeds. He is extremely playful is isn't afraid of dogs larger than him at all. His primary playmates are a Chihuahua, Willow - another smaller sized foster (and his bestie), a Golden Retriever, an American Rottweiler,
3 large mixes ranging from 70 to 100 lbs. He is good friends with an Irish Wolfhound (It doesn't get much bigger than that!). He would fit into any family that has other friendly dogs that like to play or just hang out. He'd probably be overjoyed to have a dog sibling. As a side note, Jensen does know how to communicate well as a dog and will issue appropriate corrections to other dogs. He never over corrects and is very confident and how he handles pack dynamics from what we've seen.

***NOTE*** Just like with people in the home, all resident dogs must be present to ensure there is a good match between potential pack-mates.

Cats – ( 4 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

At this time, if a potential adopter has a cat, it would be best if it was a confidant, secure, or dog savvy cat. A confident or secure older cat will be able to stand its ground and create space. A dog savvy cat has lived with dogs, is comfortable around them, can create space, and knows how to navigate the line between correction an self defense. Jensen knows how to leave cats that don't want to play alone but will be happy to engage a cat that does want to play. Skittish cats may not be a good match since he would probably chase them believing they want to play when they run away. He currently is staying with a geriatric cat who has no problem ignoring Jensen and Jensen just leaves him alone. He also is with a mature senior cat who is dog savvy and doesn't care or wish to play with him. He understand the space they demand and respects it. There is a middle aged incredibly dog savvy resident who will play with him and tell him when its time to stop playing. There is also a young adult who is an orange idiot who wants to play then gets overwhelmed easily. A few minutes later he's back for more. This cat's interactions is what tells us that skittish or fearful cats who cannot create space are probably not a good match. Everyone else should be fine.

***NOTE*** Just like with people in the home, all resident cats must be present to ensure the safety of both the dog and cats.

Pocket Pets – Unknown ( ? ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

If a family has pocket pet it would be best to play with them behind closed doors and in their enclosures as Jensen has not been exposed to them just yet. Pocket Pet introductions should be done carefully with caution and safety in mind for both animals.

***NOTE*** Being a Husky, relationships with pocket pets can be vastly varied. It is not recommended that he be in direct contact with any kind of rodentia, rabbits, smaller reptiles, or amphibians without slow and proper introductions. This doesn't mean he can't live with them, it just means they should probably not hang out together outside their enclosures unless you are very certain of their relationships after lengthy, proper introductions.
Larger reptiles such as fully grown Bearded Dragons or Tortoises/Turtles the size of a plate would probably be fine to introduce.

Behavioral Issues – Minimal ( 2 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = None and 5 = Many

Jensen doesn't exhibit any major behavioral problems. His score of 2 is based off needing a couple days to adjust to a new potty schedule. It is best if his adopter maintains a schedule for potty breaks so that he can understand the time frames. He may do perfectly from day one. He is fully potty trained so we don't anticipate any issues. Otherwise, he sometimes paws at people when getting a teat, but he has significantly improved over the last couples weeks. A new owner just needs to continue working on teaching him impulse control. He's doing great so far and will continue to do so as his training continues. He is highly treat motivated and loves attention. Jensen is a dog who is smart enough to know right from wrong. BUT, just like any Husky, that doesn't mean he won't complain about it!

Energy – Moderate ( 4 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Low and 5 = High

Jensen's energy level is moderate. He is generally always ready to play and the more active his home the more active he will probably be. He's a fun, friendly dog who can probably do just about anything and go anywhere. Jensen is a Husky, he does need activity, but he's middle aged so he doesn't need a marathon. He should be able to fit into nearly every lifestyle other than full on couch potato.

Barking – Minor ( 2 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Minimal and 5 = Very Often

It's bonkers that this dog isn't noisier. Anyone who has ever wanted a Husky but the massive noise level scares them off, Jensen may be the right fit. He does still make noise, however, the most he usually does is when going to the back yard or waiting for dinner/treats. Its his food and he wants it NOW! So he complains dramatically because that's what Huskies do. Otherwise, normal play barks for any dog or alert if he sees something in the back yard he feels you should know about. Jensen is protective of his family, so if someone weird goes by, he will let you know he doesn't think they're safe with a soft growl or whine. Good boy!

Swimming – Unknown (  ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

As we no longer have access to a pool at this time, we aren't sure how well he can swim. It is best that dogs use a life jacket just to be safe whenever in open water of any kind. We can help with tips and/or demonstration on how to teach dogs to swim for pool owners. It is imperative that a pool owner teach their dogs how to swim and be able to find the stairs to get out (especially if they do not have a pool fence) ensuring that their adopted dog does not drown.

(We think Jensen could probably swim. If he were to go to the Ocean he would need a bath afterwards to pull the salt away from his skin and keep his fur healthy)

Toys – Excellent ( 5 ) *Based on a 1-5 scale with 1 = Poor and 5 = Excellent

Jensen likes to play with toys and is good with them. He is happy to share (and steal!) toys from other dogs.
He really likes toys he can play tug with such as ropes. He loves loves loves plushies. Children beware though, he thinks all toys are toys! So be sure to clean up or he might steal those!

***NOTE*** We highly recommend getting a Bark Box Medium subscription.

Nicknames: Husky Butt, Jensie Boy

Commands Working On -

All Commands are being worked on as we don't know how much formal training he's had other than what his prior owner did during the month they had him. Jensen is a working breed, he has a drive to please. Jensen does have a good train-ability rating but just like most huskies, again, he can be dramatic and stubborn. He is very treat motivated but attention works as well. Putting even minimal effort into training should make him an even better dog than he already is!

Other Notes:

It should go without saying, but as a Husky he has a lot of hair. He needs to be brushed a couple of times a week. We suggest a grooming session by a professional about every 4 - 6 weeks. He is good for home baths, but he has a lot of thick fur and bath time takes a long time to wet him down, wash, and thoroughly rinse him. Drying with a cool hair dryer would make him dry quicker. If towel dried it will still take several hours for him to fully dry. He will probably blow his coat twice a year. Otherwise he hasn't been a big shedder, but we do brush him several times a week so that helps.

****Notes will be forthcoming as his evaluation progresses***
Picture
'I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal, and I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then spoke softly.
"I have done something," he replied,
"I created you."
